Florida Avenue\, Tampa\, FL 33602 \nJoin us for The Civil Conversations Project \nThis group is open to the public and meets the first Thursday of each month from 6:30-8 p.m. in The Portico Cafe’s “Conversations Room”. \nWhat began as a six-week experiment in early 2017 has become an ongoing opportunity for growth and connection through conversation. \nThe Civil Conversations Project at The Portico now offers a monthly opportunity to engage in meaningful conversation with others—sometimes with markedly different perspectives and life experiences—on topics and issues that impact our lives. \nIt’s a conversation open to anyone who wishes to participate\, walk-ins welcome\, 6:30 – 8 p.m. every first Thursday at The Portico Cafe\, 1001 N. Florida Ave. \nThe project is inspired by the Civil Conversations Project (www.civilconversationsproject.org ) launched by the NPR radio program and podcast On Being. Each week’s discussion focuses on one podcast interview from the project. \nQuote from Michelle Schumacher\, group organizer: “When the Rev. Dr. Gary Mason spoke to us at the ‘Uncomfortable Conversations’ event in February 2017\, he said\, ‘There are three ways to resolve conflict: genocide\, containment\, and conversations.’ We choose conversations.” \nFor more information\, please contact Michelle Schumacher at 813.363.3970 or at michelleschumacher2015@gmail.com.

SUMMARY:Design + Health 2018: Health For All
DESCRIPTION:Date: Thursday\, April 5\, 2018\nTime: 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.\nLocation: Marshall Student Center Room 2708 \nAccording to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)\, governments have committed to achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC) by 2030 by building better systems for health. However\, the context in which health systems operate will evolve dramatically as urbanization and further development takes place in our communities. The global population is projected to reach 8.5 billion by 2030\, of which over 60% will live in urban areas. Unsustainable organization and development poses a threat to our health including air pollution\, access to clean water\, sedentary lifestyles\, and unhealthy diets. While urbanization is inevitable\, we need to ensure that it’s not detrimental to our health. By looking at the WELL District and other initiative in cities around the world\, we can act on these opportunities that are unique in urban settings to strengthen Health Systems while taking a “Health in All” policies approach to decision-making. \nOn Thursday\, 5 April 2018 from 1pm-3pm\, the USF College of Public Health\, Florida Center for Community Design & Research (FCCD+R)\, USF School of Architecture\, the Disaster and Humanitarian Relief (DAHR) Student Collaborative\, and the United Nations Association Tampa Bay will host “Design + Health” an event organized in celebration of World Health Day 2018. We will bring together experts from the field to talk about how addressing health disparities needs to be done across sectors including urban planning\, transportation\, food and agriculture\, public health\, and education in an effort to minimize the burden of disease. This event will explore these important connections and suggest actions to advance Urban Health with Keynote Speaker\, Joel Mills\, Senior Director of the Center for Communities by Design at the American Institute of Architects (AIA) in Washington DC\, along with a panel of experts from a wide-range of disciplines as we lead progressive and forward thinking conversations that ensure collaboration in the areas of design and health. \nDate: Thursday\, 5 April 2018\nTime: 1pm-3pm\nLocation: USF Marshall Student Center (MSC) 2708 \nKeynote Speaker & Moderator:\nJoel Mills. Senior Director of the Center for Communities by Design at the American Institute of Architects (AIA) in Washington DC. Joel’s career has been focused on strengthening civic capacity and civic institutions around the world. This work has helped millions of people participate in democratic processes\, visioning efforts\, and community planning initiatives. In the United States\, Joel has worked with over 100 communities\, leading participatory initiatives and collaborative processes that have facilitated community-generated strategies on a host of issues. \nConfirmed Panelists:\nDonna Petersen. SUMMARY:Coffee with a Curator: Surrealism & Crime
DESCRIPTION:Coffee with a Curator is a focused\, theme-oriented presentation on a variety of Dali-related topics. The talk is presented by one of The Dali Museum’s Curatorial/Education team or an invited speaker. \nMargo Hammond: Surrealism & Crime\nThe history of Surrealism is littered with corpses. Painting dismembered bodies\, posing mannequins to look like dead bodies and writing about assassinations as acts of transgressive valor\, the surrealists often focused on criminality and violence. The surrealists called their favorite parlor game “The Exquisite Corpse.” In this coffee talk\, author and editor Margo Hammond examines the surrealists’ connection with crime\, including the possibility that their aesthetic theories inspired a real life crime: the unsolved Black Dahlia murder. \nCost: Free (parking is free for members as available; $10 parking for nonmembers)\nLocation: Raymond James Community Room (overflow seating available in the Will Raymund Theater) \nSupported by the City of St. Petersburg Arts and Culture Grant and Cafe Gala.
