The Polar Express at Curtis Hixon Park
An animated film based on a storybook, The Polar Express is the story of boy who has reached an age when he begins to have doubts believing in Santa. Late one Christmas Eve, the young boy is lying awake waiting for the sound of sleigh bells ringing from Santa’s sleigh. Five minutes to midnight his room begins to shake, and he hears a thunderous sound outside his window. The boy grabs his robe and rushes out the front door to look at the train. The train’s conductor (Tom Hanks, who voices several characters in the film) asks the boy if he is getting aboard, and when the boy asks where the train is headed, he replies “To the North Pole, of course, this is The Polar Express!” A gorgeous and touching tale of how we treat the magic in our own lives, The Polar Express has earned its place as a contemporary Christmas classic.
The Polar Express will begin at 8:00pm after the City of Tampa’s tree lighting, presented in partnership with Friends of the Park as a FREE community screening at Curtis Hixon Park at the Tampa Downtown Partnership’s Winter Village event. Lawn seating is first-come, first-served, so please don’t forget your blankets or folding lawn chairs. Refreshments will be available for sale from Tampa Theatre and a variety of other Winter Village vendors.
